Moriones Festival
Holy Week · March–April
Province-wide (Boac, Gasan, Mogpog)
Marinduque's world-renowned Lenten folk-religious festival. Penitents don elaborate, hand-carved Roman-centurion masks and costumes as "Moriones," reenacting the story of Longinus — the blind soldier whose sight was restored at the Crucifixion and who was later beheaded for his conversion. A week of street drama, the playful "pugutan," and riots of color make it one of the Philippines' most iconic cultural spectacles.
